Since BBC brought the series “Sherlock” with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman in the leading roles on TV, the sharp-witted detective has been on everyone’s lips again. Yggdrasil Gaming has also dedicated himself to the sniffer nose and with the online slot “Holmes and the Stolen Stones” has brought a game into the casinos that is loosely oriented to the life of the uniquely talented private detective.

Our review of the Holmes and the Stolen Stones Slot

The character of the British writer Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was conceived in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Sherlock Holmes’s novels became very important for this type of literature, as Doyle first introduced novel forensic working methods based only on observations. There are a total of 56 short stories and four novels about Sherlock Holmes.

The BBC has moved the stories for the series “Sherlock” to today’s London. It features a fantastic Benedict Cumberbatch in the lead role of the remarkable Sherlock Holmes. Martin Freeman, also known from “The Hobbit”, plays his partner Dr. Watson. The series quickly established itself as an absolute blockbuster and combines the old stories with modernity in a unique way.

The developers at Yggdrasil Gaming obviously also have a weakness for the master detective, but in their online slot they only orientate themselves loosely on the story. The online slot features the “old” Sherlock Holmes with cap and pipe, also the rest of the look of the slot is rather “antique”, but detail-loving and beautifully designed. The slot is a real feast for the eyes thanks to the sophisticated colour concept. And the sound is also very good. It plays a bit with the movie music of the BBC series, underlines the character of the slot without being intrusive.

Graphics and symbols

As already mentioned, the 20 payline graphics of the slot are absolutely convincing. It is not overloaded, the colors are pleasant, yet background and symbols create a pleasant atmosphere. On the reels, players encounter 5×3 Sherlock, a magnifying glass, a mysterious notebook, locks and detailed card symbols. The locks play an important role in the slot, they are involved in two of the three special functions of the slot.

The Dark Castle

This castle is involved in the “Warehouse Bonus Game”. If three or more of these symbols appear on the reels, the bonus game is triggered. A heavy wooden door opens that was previously hidden on the left side of the screen. This door leads the player into a dark warehouse where he will find 18 wooden boxes stacked on top of each other. This bonus game is a click game: The player is allowed to open the different boxes and is rewarded with prizes and jewels hidden in them. That goes well until he opens the boxes with the smoke bomb – then the game is over.

If the bonus game with 4 symbols is triggered, the player receives a bonus of 1,000 coins, triggers the game with 5 locks, there are even 10,000 extra coins!

The golden lock

The second lock symbol is the golden lock. It has a “Free Spins” sign and triggers ten Free Spins with a triple multiplier when three or more of these symbols appear on the reels. A golden door opens that was hidden on the right side of the screen. Again, if the free spins are triggered by four symbols, the reward is 1,000 coins, if the free spins are triggered by five symbols, the reward is 10,000 coins.

Collect Diamonds

In the free play mode, but also in the warehouse game and in the “normal” course of the game the different coloured diamonds play an important role. In the basic game a bar with empty fields appears above the reels, in which diamonds fit. The goal is to collect five diamonds of the same color, then 10 free spins are also triggered. If another five diamonds of the same colour are collected in the free spins, the player can win one of five associated progressive jackpots!

The new online slot from Yggdrasil Gaming is a high-calibre online slot, which does not shine with elaborate animations, video scenes or overflowing bonus games, but which is absolutely convincing due to its simple and harmonious design. The graphics, the sound – all this fits perfectly to the theme and when Sherlock Holmes has found his lost stones, everything will also be good for the player, because then there is a progressive jackpot to win. And this option convinces even the most demanding player.

Slots FAQ

How do slot machines work?

The player has no direct influence on the win or the probabilities. However, since the programmed percentage of payouts varies from device to device and online casino to online casino, the player can influence his chances of winning at least in the choice of casino and machine.

Online most slot machines pay out in the long run between 92 and 98 percent again. The higher this value is, the better it is for the players. Most offerers indicate this payout ratio on the info. board of each slot machine.

In general applies that Jackpot automats have somewhat worse ratios than normal automats. With the prospect on a potential million profit one buys oneself thus also somewhat worse disbursements in the long term.

Einstellungen bei Spielautomaten

Besides the infinite topic and symbol variety with the different automats there are also some further attitudes, which one can make as a player.

Multilines (Lines)

On a very simple slot machine you will be paid if the three symbols on the middle line match. Mostly you can see the two lines above and below, but they don’t count. In a multi-line game, you can activate these two lines by betting extra money. If not only horizontal but also oblique lines count, bets of nine coins or more are possible. Online you can sometimes bet over 20 lines and you can usually set how many lines you want to play.

Multiplier (Coins)

By inserting several coins before a game, you can multiply the potential winnings. Usually the number of coins (and thus the multiplier) is limited. If you insert about five coins and get a line win worth ten times the bet, then you will be paid a total of 50 coins (5 x 10). For your chances of winning it does not matter which multiplier you choose.
